Herd and Flock Health Plans

Herd health planning is used to continuously improve animal health and welfare on your farm. We provide a proactive approach including help with nutrition, parasite control and vaccinations, managing lameness and mastitis, infectious disease testing and eradication and routine preventative health procedures.

Herd health planning involves evaluation of your herd or flock, with clinical observations of your animals and their environment and regular and systematic analysis of farm data.

An annual review of your herd or flock should be completed with your vet. The herd health plan also helps farmers demonstrate that their husbandry and welfare meet nationally agreed levels of best practice for Red Tractor.

Mastitis Control Plan, rapid in-house mastitis testing and Dynamic Milking Machine testing

Mastitis in dairy cows, as you well know, can be very frustrating and have a big impact on cow welfare as well as productivity and profitability. We can carry out an in depth investigation as part of the Mastitis Control Plan where we look at your milk recording data and/or mastitis records as well as doing an on farm assessment to see where we can target adjustments to have the biggest impact on reducing mastitis incidence on your farm. The plan generated and mastitis issues can then be reviewed and adjusted going forward.

We also offer rapid in-house mastitis testing to gather more information to help build up a picture of the farm specific problem to improve treatment and prevention advice success. Results are emailed to you within 24hours of the sample arriving at the Ruthin practice.

The milking machine itself can be part of a mastitis problem if not functioning properly and we are pleased to announce that we can also now offer dynamic milking machine testing to investigate this.

There is also funding available up to 70% through farming connect towards this type of work.
